Transport issues
Transport is recognised as a very serious problem in the area of
Chichester and the Manhood Peninsula by everyone who lives there.
Roads are narrow and mostly have numerous bends with poor visibility.
A number of local organisations have been formed to try to persuade the
Highways Department and other local authorities to improve matters.
To date little has been done whilst the number of houses being
built continues to rise. As an example of these groups
Sidlesham Traffic Action Group (STAG)
has been campaigning. Sadly though, representatives from Planning
and Highways department are conspicuously absent from any public
meetings.
The road system presents particular problems for cyclists and
pedestrians due o fast flowing traffic on the narrow lanes. Some
improvements are being considered and the
appended report and
map
shows planned changes. But for pedestrians there is either no
path or it only exists on one side of the road and is often overgrown.
